I arrived at 11:15 and walked Fossil Road to the red gate with no sign of the
bird. On my way back (about 30m east of the red gate) I spotted the Solitaire
in the upper most branches of a tall tree on the south side of the road. While
perched, it actually started vocalizing at one
point. The call was two different pitched short whistles repeated over and
over. It was fairly loud as well, so visitors should listen for this. At
11:55 it came down to eye level in a clump of Barberry sp. It stayed at these
shrubs until 12:50, at which point I left with Pete Chapman and Alf Rider. The
bird was mostly eating from the Barberry sp. but did venture out to eat from
Juniper every now and then. It can be very hard to notice while eating, so
have patience.

There is also a Northern Shrike hanging out around the intersection of Sylvan
Road and Lamon Drive (which is just north of Hungry Hollow).

Directions: Go north on Kerwood Road from the 402 exit #56 (west of
Strathroy). Turn left (west) on Townsend Line. Turn right (north) on Sylvan
Road. After crossing the Ausable River at Hungry Hollow, park at the Fossil
Road intersection. Walk west along Fossil Road.
