March 8, 6:30 pm - with the last glimmer of daylight, I spotted one great gray owl on the east side of Halls Road at the north end of the conifer plantation at the edge of what was a corn field. The owl was sitting in the top of a conifer tree, and after a few moments, swooped down into the field to attempt to capture prey, before heading back into the conifers.
I saw no owls on Shoal Point Road or other north-south roads, but one was reportedly seen in the morning on Shoal Point Road by two gracious ladies who encouraged me to be patient on Halls Road and wait for the owls to emerge. One did! Thank you! Don Davis Toronto, ON P.S. Thanks to everyone for continuing to send their first American Robin, Red-Winged Blackbird and Loon sightings DIRECTLY TO THIS WRITER OR JOURNEY NORTH OR THE ALTERNATIVE BIRD LISTS. The 300,000 children studying science with Journey North thank you as well.
