Hi Everyone
Today, April 6th, beween 7:00am and 11:00am, birded the floodplains east of Ottawa. The Carlsbad Springs/Bear Brook area was still flooded and had 1000's of Canada Geese and a small number of Northern Pintails, American Wigeon, Wood Duck and Green-winged Teal. Further east in the Bourget/Cobb Lake Creek/Pendleton area, again 1000's of Canada Geese and finally found one Greater White-fronted Goose just south of Pendleton in the road closed area. There were small numbers of Mallard, Black, Green-winged Teal and 1000+ Northern Pintail. In the Riceville area over 7500+ Greater Snow Geese were observed with 22 blue morph.. They were in a number of large flocks along CR 9 near the bridge. Water levels were high with a few road closures but should be lower over the next few days.
                                                       good birding

Carlsbad Springs/Bear Brook: Take Hwy 417 east from Ottawa to exit 96 (Carlsbad Springs), go north to Cty rd. #26 (Russell Rd.), then north on #85 (Milton Rd.)

To get to Cobbs Lake from Ottawa, travel east on Highway 417
to Boundary Road (exit #96) and turn left (north) toward Carlsbad
Springs. At the "T" junction of Boundary Road and Russell Road (Route
26), turn right (east) on Russell and continue until you come to Bourget
(approximately 25 km). In Bourget, there is a 4-way stop sign. Go
straight and, a couple of km further along, the road goes through a
spring flood plain; this is the Cobbs Lake Creek area.
Riceville area can be located by traveling east of Ottawa on Hwy.
417 to exit 51, (St.Isidore) and follow CR 9 north to the Riceville
flood plains. An Eastern Ontario MAPART Map is very helpful!
