Hi Ontbirders, This morning a group of us went birding in the east end of Ottawa to find a Brant Goose(Easternly subspecies which has a pale belly contrasting with a black chest and the neck patches don't meet in the front) and a Sandhill Crane west of Milton Road. We saw a Blue morph Snow Goose with some Pintail Ducks and several Canadas. Also a female Ruddy Duck in the overflowing Beaverbrook Creek at Frank Kenny. Hi Ontbirders, Birding in the rain this morning (Thursday, 7 April), Dave Minns & I found one male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker near the feeders on Dolman Ridge Road. At Mer Bleue boardwalk there were two Rusty Blackbirds. I didn't get a chance to report a Winter Wren & two singing Brown Creepers yesterday (Wednesday, 6 April) at the Jack Pine Trail. Good birding. Roger Clark (Ottawa) Directions: Take Highway 417 East. Exit at Innes Road and go east (turn left) for 3 km. Turn right on Anderson Road. Proceed 3 km to Dolman Ridge Road and turn left. The parking (P20) is 1 km on the right. Return to Anderson Road and turn left. Proceed 1.5 km to Ridge Road and turn left. The Mer Bleue boardwalk parking is 3.5 km at the end of Ridge Road. For the Jack Pine Trail, take Moodie Drive (exit # 134) from Hwy 417 (west of Ottawa) & head south crossing Robertson Road, where Moodie becomes Richmond Road. Continue along Richmond Road turning left (east) onto West Hunt Club Road. At Moodie Drive turn right and proceed south for approximately 1.5 km. The Jack Pine Trail parking lot is on your left.
