A group of birders refound the the Black-backed Woodpecker this morning as per
the following post:

The BB woodpecker was relocated today (Monday) at 10am by Denys Gardiner and
seen very shortly after by a total of 9 local birders. From the directions
yesterday..... when you get to the large cement block, turn left. A
sidetrial appears to the right after about 30-40m. Take this sidetrail
heading south for about 300m when a side trail to the right appears. Take
the side trail to the right and the bird was on a tree right on the path
about 150-200m on, in the area where the trail bends substantially to the
left. Obviously it can occur anywhere from where we saw it, north to the
cement block. Good luck.

Directions to Hyde Tract:

>From Hamilton take the 403 to Hwy 6 North. Proceed north on Hwy 6 to Safari
>Road and then turn west on Safari. Before
you get to Hyde Tract, there is a large marshy area on both sides of the
road(approx 14-15km from Hwy 6) The parking
lot to Hyde Tract is on the left hand side. If you hit Kikwall Road, you've
gone too far. From the parking lot proceed
along the main trail. This trail has a couple of smaller branches but stay to
the right on the main trail past the
house ruins and then onto the large cement block. Follow directions suggested
above and listen carefully for the
tapping.

Cheryl Edgecombe

Many Ottawa area birders will be aware of the great horned owl nest near Mud
Lake, in Britannia Woods. I was recently advised by a friend who lives close
by that the owlets seen earlier in the nest, have died.
