I havn't seen a post for the black-backed woodpecker lately so I thought I should let anyone that is interested know that the bird was still there on wenesday morning. Several of us from Guelph found the bird within a few minutes of arriving. Check previous posts for accurate directions. Hyde tract is 10 to 11 kilometers west of Hwy 6 ( Between 401 and 403) on Safari road. Follow the trail until you come to a cement structure and take the trail on the left side. We found the bird about 100 meters down this trail were the trail has its first branch to the right. The easiest way to find the bird is to listen for it pecking on the trees in this area. If you get within 20 or 30 meters of it you should be able to hear it and track it down. A few of us (at Bird Studies Canada) went and easily found the birds, which were feeding along the edge of the pond. Lee Brown is located along Regional Road 42 (Front Road), 1km west of Port Royal, west of Highway 59. Good luck if you try to see the birds. Sams Park in a tree between the turnabout and the yacht club. They sang quite enthusiastically and then often flew down into the grasses. There were also numerous c.loons, many close by in the bays. Gadwalls, a redheaded duck, a black-crowned night heron, c.mergansers, etc. were also to be found. Col. Sams is off the Lake Shore by the old mental health institution, a short way west of Humber Bay. Sorry, that's the best I can do for directions. Kathy Callahan
