In late April, Ontbirds was alerted to the presence of three Whooping
Cranes that were reported to have entered the province via Fort Erie and
headed north to central Ontario. After spending some time between the area
west of Algonquin and the Bruce Peninsula, the trio now appears to have
split up according to the Operation Migration website
www.operationmigration.org (select - in the field ).
Two birds defied conventional wisdom and headed north instead of south and
crossed over open water to the upper Michigan peninsula. The third may have
headed due east and was possibly sighted (and photographed) near Montreal.
This report was from May 5 so it's anyone's guess where it is now.
