Point Pelee Report for May 14, 2005 (Saturday): Despite the south winds and overnight rain, the number of new migrants this morning is somewhat limited. The Tip area is very quiet, but areas further north such as Tilden's Woods and Sanctuary Picnic Area, for example, as more active. Reported this morning are the following: Kirtland's Warbler -- extreme north end of Northwest Beach (same bird) Clay-colored Sparrow -- one or more at the Tip Connecticut Warbler -- Tilden's Woods Worm-eating Warbler -- Tilden's Woods Great Tit -- an "escapee" coming to the feeders at "The Fish Place" restaurant just north of Point Pelee Seen late yesterday were the following: Glossy Ibis -- big ditch at the east end of Concession Road C (two roads N of the park entrance) American White Pelicans -- at least (5) at Hillman Marsh, possibly present in the morning only. Summer Tanager -- Sanctuary Picnic Area seasonal trail (north end) Yellow-crowned Night-Heron -- NW Hillman Marsh (E side of shorebird cell); the bird is quite elusive, but tends to come out at sunset. Yellow-breasted Chats are being heard from DeLaurier Trail, and the area of the cemetery. A variety of shorebirds continue to be seen at the NW Hillman Marsh shorebird cell -- Wilson's Phalarope (several), Dunlin, Solitary Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, etc. Good Birding, Friends of Point Pelee John Haselmayer, Karl Konze, Ross Mackintosh, Dave Martin, Pete Read and Alan Wormington **************************** Point Pelee National Park of Canada and the Friends of Point Pelee brings you the Festival of Birds 2005, from April 30 - May 31.
