Saturday at 6:00 a.m. We heard but did not see a possible worm-eating
warbler near the Prairie Warbler corner (and yes, the Prairie was there
and singing). The possible WE was on the sand road about 100-200 metres
east of the intersection of Twp. East 1/4 line S.W. and Concession no.
5, which is one road north of Highway 24. If you're unfamiliar with this
area, this intersection is in the general vicinity north of Port Rowan
and Long Point. The 1/4 line is one west of H-N Reg. Rd. 16. We would
like to know if anyone else can corroborate this observation.

Also, Townsend sewage lagoons in the afternoon produced many ducks
(including Pintail and female C. Goldeneye) and 5 species of shorebirds
including a pair of Wilson's Phalaropes and an Upland Sandpiper heard
from west-most lagoons. From Hgy 3 leading west of Simcoe, go east until
sign for Townsend. Go north to first intersection, turn left and park
before first house.

A good wave of warblers and vireos came in overnight, with several empidonax
flycatchers. An Acadian flycatcher was seen and heard at the Gardiner Deer
Exclosure Trail.

A yellow-bellied flycatcher was seen at both Spice Bush Trail and the Tulip
Trail. Last night one chuck-will's-widow was heard calling at South Point
Trail while over 60 people waited for it to call at the Visitor's Centre, who
did hear 2 whip-poor-will calling.

A male and female prothonotary warbler were seen on the Tulip Tree Trail and
blackpoll warblers were seen there and at South Point Trail. A willow
flycatcher was heard calling along the back beach along the South Point Trail
and a male hooded warbler was seen along the west side of the South Beach
Trail.

Yesterday's afternoon bird hike produced several species of warblers and one
female summer tanager at the Pony Barns. An immature Franklin's gull was also
seen along the east side of the South Point Trail yesterday, but was not seen
today. Four yellow-headed blackbirds were reported yesterday in the private
marsh just outside the park gates.

Great Birding in the Rondeau Birding Area.

Directions: Turn south off Highway 401 at Exit 101 and follow the signs to
Rondeau Provincial Park.
