A bird that appeared to be a female Lazuli Bunting was caught and photographed this morning at Old Cut banding station, on Long Point.
I am going through the numerous photos I took this morning to find the ones best showing the bird's features, and I'll send them to the OFO website for posting. The bird had obvious wing bars, as well as other characteristics that all pointed towards Lazuli Bunting (including a slightly larger size than Indigo Bunting). Old Cut is located on Old Cut boul., near the end of Highway 59 on Long Point. I am unaware whether the bird was seen again after its release, but I thought I'd spread the word quickly. It was on the ground, eating dandelion seeds, in the area west of the stacked rows of picnic tables at the bottom area of the ridge that runs east & west through the park. The Old Park is currently closed & there are lots of dandelion heads to keep it well fed. The picnic table stacks are visible from #59. It was moving in a westerly direction. It had all the identifying marks earlier reported but try as I might, I could not see a band on its leg. Its legs were always hidden in the grass. The Old Park is on highway #59, about 6 roads west of Old Cut Blvd. Diane Salter Walsingham
