The bird is moving around a lot, on both sides of the road, usually on fence posts or fencewires but for a time right among the furrows of a ploughed field on the north side of the road where it was hard to see. Directions: Exit Hwy.401 at Newcastle, Exit 440. Go south on Mill Street, under a railway bridge to a Stop sign. Turn left, following Mill Street south to the harbour, then the road turns east and becomes Lakeshore Road. Follow Lakeshore Road eastward over a wooden bridge across a railway line. Keep right (east) on Lakeshore Road to the large red barn on the south side of the road at 4005. The bird was in this area from 2-6pm but as I left at 6pm it flew eastward over the barn and was refound 200m east of the barn on the south side of Lakeshore Road, about 200m west of the next intersection with Morgans Road. There was a small group of volunteer plover wardens standing guard and explaining the reason for the closure of the far end of Beach 1 to "civilian" beach goers. They are also keeping track of sightings for park management (who no doubt have to justify keeping part of the beach closed off). I was lucky and saw the bird within minutes of arrival but it had apparently not been seen previously in the day. This could be because I brought a scope and the wardens did not. After about 20 minutes on view the bird disappeared from sight and I left. This is in a Provincial Park and there is a $12 admission. Nancy Murphy's directions: Wasaga Beach can be reached by going west out of Elmvale on Hwy 92. Follow into Main St., turn right and follow to main beach area, just over the bridge, turn right and park in Beach 1 parking area. Walk down to the beach and you will see the snow fenced area with signs posted. Gavin Edmondstone Oakville, Ontario
