Hi Ontbirders,
birding the KFN-property on Amherst Island this morning produced a number
of good birds: An Adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, American wigeon
w/ducklings, Northern harrier, 13+ Upland sandpipers, both Least and
Semipalmated sandpipers, a young Wilson's phalarope, two Greater
yellowlegs, Semipalmated plover, a Bonaparte's gull, 4 Black terns, 50+
Caspian terns (3 fledglings), a pair of Common terns w/3 fledglings, 3
singing SEDGE WRENS along the 40 Foot Rd. leading to the southern shore,
and a number of Savannah and Vesper sparrows. On the same location on
July19, we also saw a American bittern, a pair of Am. black duck, two male
Greater scaup and an early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

On my return towards Kingston today, I made a stop by the Amherstview
Sewage Lagoon to look for shorebirds. As for the last week, I found a good
number of Killdeers, Lesser yellowlegs, Spotted sandpipers, Least and
Semipalmated sandpipers and Black terns. In addition, I spotted a hooded
merganser, an adult male PEREGRINE FALCON repeatedly chasing the flocks of
shorebirds and gulls, a flock of 6 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, UPLAND
SANDPIPER, two STILT SANDPIPERS and about 75 Bonaparte's gulls.

Good birding,

Frode Jacobsen
Kingston
