On Sunday, the Alfred sewage lagoons, 70 kms east of Ottawa on Highway 174,
turned up three pectoral sandpipers, one dunlin, a Baird's sandpiper, an
American pipit and two rusty blackbirds, all in the north-east corner of the
pond closest to Peat Moss Road. There were also ruddy ducks, green-wing teal,
mallards, coot, and a pair of harriers.

Peat Moss Road is the first major intersection east of Alfred, at the bottom of
a hill. Turn right, lagoons are on your left after about a kilometre.

You can get a permit to enter the lagoons from the town office, south side of
the main street, just before the big church.

Observed an Eared Grebe at the Amherstview Lagoons near Kingston, =
Ontario. It was pointed out to me by two experienced birders who said =
it had been there for a couple of weeks. I accidentaly took a picture =
of it earlier but didn't know what I had. In fact I took over a hundred =
pictures and he only showed up in one. I have posted the picture on my =
blog: www.nightofthekingfisher.blogspot.com It isn't a real close shot =
but it is clear enough for identification.

It was middle of the afternoon today, cloudy with occassional drizel. I =
did not see the Mew Gull that was reported earlier and of the 100 =
Bonaparte's Gulls reported I only saw about 20.

Amherstview Lagoons can be reached from 401 to County Road 6 south to =
Taylor Kidd Blvd, then left on Taylor Kidd, over the railroad bridge, =
then first right. There isn't a sign but you can see the buildings up a =
short driveway.
