Hello Ontbirders,

At 1:00 p.m. today, 17 October, at Sobeys Pond in Whitby, there was one Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii hutchinsii) among the Canadas.

Directions: South on Brock Street in Whitby (not Brock Road in Pickering) to Victoria, right on Victoria to Gordon; right on Gordon (opposite road to Whitby Memorial Hospital), then left on Nordeagle. The pond is on the north side opposite Sobeys warehouse.

At 2:00 p.m. today, the juvenile Hudsonian Godwit was at the south end of Corner Marsh on the mudflats just north of the bridge. Other shorebirds: juvenile Black-bellied Plover, juvenile White-rumped Sandpiper, juvenile Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, first basic Dunlin, juvenile Pectoral Sandpipers.

Directions: From Bayly Street east of Brock Road in Pickering, take Squires Beach Road south to Jodrel, left on Jodrel then left again on Park Road to Frisco Road. Park at the very end and walk east on the Waterfront Trail about 200 metres to the bridge to view the extensive mudflats on the north side.
