After 3 excellent days of viewing migrating raptors at Cranberry Marsh RW we
succumbed to a 2-day lull; 63 hawks on Oct.18--42 Turkey Vultures, 12
red-tailed, 1 Rough-legged, 1 N.Harrier, 5 Sharp-shinned, AND 1 late Osprey
AND 1 adult BALD EAGLE. In spite of vigorous winds on Oct.19 very few birds
of any species were in the air; indeed, we had only 1 migratory raptor-a
N.Harrier.

A Cackling Goose can be picked out among the Canadas at Sobey's Pond (see
directions below).
Other birds - On Oct. 18--FOX SPARROW came out onto the path a few times; a
Marsh Wren was picked out in the cattails, and a Snow Goose was seen in the
soybean field at the north end of Hall's Rd.
On Oct. 19 --1 Rusty Blackbird and a very late Monarch were picked out by
Bill Edmunds from the platform off Hall's Rd.

To get to Sobey's Pond--access the 401 at #410 (Brock St. in Whitby), south
to Victoria, west past Henry St., past the Iroquois Sports Complex to the
next street, north to the road which parallels the long warehouses--on the
south side is the pond.

For CMRW--same 401 exit from the east; from the west, exit 404 (Salem Rd. in
Ajax), south to Bayly, east through Lakeridge Rd. to the first street
(Hall's Rd.), south down to the second roadside parking area.
