Jamie Reid and I had a Purple Sandpiper this morning on Simcoe Island during the Kingston CBC. We saw it (presumably the same individual) twice. At 805 it was on the south shore approximately 300-400 east of the 9 Mile Point Lighthouse and at 855 it was on the north shore approximately 400-500 m east of the lighthouse. During the latter observation we observed the bird for approximately 1 5 minutes from as close as 10-15 m. It was feeding along the shoreline.
Directions: At the Kingston waterfront take the ferry to Wolfe Island. Go west along the north shore of Wolfe Island to the Simcoe Island ferry. On Simcoe Island, go north to the only East-West road on the island. Follow it to the west (left) to the end of the road at the Lighthouse. Walk east along the north shore. We saw it just before coming to an old delapitated farm house just back from the shorline (the first buildings east of the lighthouse on the north shore).
