Although the majority of Herring Gulls headed south about 3 weeks ago and the Ring-Billed Gulls are long gone many of the "winter" Gulls seem to be hanging in at the Sault Ste. Marie Landfill. In about 2 hours this afternoon I had 1-1st winter Great-Black Backed Gull, 6- Glaucous Gulls in various plumages, 1- Nelson's (Glaucous x Herring) Gull in juvenile plumage, 1 adult Thayer's Gull and 1 - 2nd year "Kumlien's" Iceland Gull (missed last week on local CBC) along with a couple of hundred Herring Gulls. Raptors included 2 Bald Eagles and a Red-Tailed Hawk. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
