Birds were scarce in Algonquin as stated in Ron Tozers report. A single Am.
Crow was calling just west of the park entrance at the Oxtongue River bridge,
while N.Three-toed Woodpeckers & W.W.Crossbills that were seen here by our
scout camp the last 3 years, on this weekend, were absent and only 2 Pine
Siskins were in the area. The Visitors Center had a couple different flocks of
Pine Grosbeaks (up to 20 birds) and C. Redpolls visiting on Sat. afternoon. The
highlight was 2 Pine Martens followed shortly afterward by a Fisher which
returned several times in quick succession to a suet feeder. A single Evening
Grosbeak was observed near a feeder south of Huntsville.

On February 19 at about 2:45PM we were driving west on Giroux Rd after
having a look at the Gret Grey Owl when we spotted a Northern Shrike sitting
high in a tree overlooking the western end of the LaFarge property that is
located on the south side of Giroux. Also saw a Raven at the same location a
few minutes earlier.

No sign of the Yellow-headed Blackbird at #23 Manitou in Forest Park
(3:30PM), but did see two American Tree Sparrows with the House Sparrow
flock going to the feeders behind the house.

A pair of Cardinals has re-appeared in our back yard at 1920 Hall Street in
Ottawa after being AWOL all winter. We are pretty sure they nested in our
cedar hedge last summer - watched adults carrying nest materials, then
carrying food, and finally we noticed two to three juvenile birds in
mid-summer. Never looked for the nest - didn't wand to disturb the birds.
However, we could see the adults enter the hedge at one spot, and then sneak
along through the hedge towards a dense patch of cedar where we think the
nest was located.

I haven't bothered to post information concerning occasional sightings of
Peregrine Falcon at 580 Booth Street, because the bird seems pretty regular
in this neighbourhood, but I might as well go on record and say that I have
seen an adult Peregrine Falcon about once or twice every week since early
January, from my 14th floor window overlooking Booth Street.
