THE OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE @ 7:00 pm, SUNDAY FEBRUARY 26, 2006.

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

An interesting week, full of good reports! The TOWNSEND'S
SOLITAIRE near Kars north of Kemptville is still present as of
today the 26th, coming to the warm-water outflow on the left side
of the house at #7389 3rd Line Rd. There is no need to enter the
property to view this bird.

The Northern Mockingbird on McCordick Rd. south of North Gower is
also still present as of today, and seems to frequent the bushes
near the barns on the south side of the property at #6848
McCordick. Please do not enter the property; the bird is
irregular but has always been seen from the road.

The YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD and the BOREAL CHICKADEE in Forest
Park east of Embrun were both still present as of at least the
20th at #23 Manitou St., and the most recent report of a GREAT
GRAY OWL in the Ottawa area was from Frank Kenny Dr. between Old
Montreal Rd. and Wilhaven Dr. on the evening of the 21st. A light-
morph GYRFALCON was seen on the Central Experimental Farm east of
the manure pile at Ash Lane on the morning of the 21st and was
searched for by many but was not seen again.

Waterfowl reports were, as expected at this time of year, almost
nonexistent, but bird of interest were 2 Canada Geese, a male
Green-winged Teal and a female Lesser Scaup on the Rideau River
below the bridge on Bridge St. in Manotick on the 19th. A mind-
boggling total, for this time of year, of 6 species of owls were
reported over the past week -- An Eastern Screech-Owl was briefly
heard at after dusk on Oriole Cres. in the neighbourhood of Beacon
Hill on the 20th, a pair of Great Horned Owls were seen at
Cedarview and Hunt Club Rds. on the evening of the 19th, several
Snowy Owls are still present in previously reported locations such
as Eagleson and Brownlee Rds., and the Frank Kenny / O'Toole /
Regimbald Rd. area, a Barred Owl was sunning itself near the Duck
Club feeders on March Valley Rd. near Riddell Rd. on the morning
of the 26th, and a Northern Saw-whet Owl was seen catching a House
Sparrow in, of all places, downtown Ottawa on Lewis St. at
Hardington Place on the evening of the 24th.

Other reports of interest included the following: 4 Gray Partridge
were at the SW corner of Eagleson and Brownlee Rd. on the 25th, 9
Wild Turkeys were at the intersection of March Valley and Klondike
Rds. and another flock of 8 were seen along Anderson Rd. between
Dolman Ridge and Ridge Rds. the same day. A few Northern Shrikes,
American Robins, Bohemian Waxwings, Common Redpolls and Pine
Siskins were reported from around the area. A single White-winged
Crossbill was singing on Gatineau View Cres. in Beacon Hill on the
20th and a small number was heard in the White Spruce trees on
McCordick Rd. near the Mockingbird location on the 26th, and a
single White-throated Sparrow was at the feeder behind the
Fletcher Wildlife Garden Interpretive Centre on Prince of Wales
Dr. on the 26th as well.

Thank you - Good Birding!
