Spring migration is gaining momentum. Sandhill Cranes, Killdeer, Great Blue Herons, Double-crested Cormorants, Northern Flicker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Eastern Meadowlarks, and many ducks: Ring-necked, Pintail, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Redhead, Black, Blue-wing Teal, and of course Mallards. Tundra and Mute Swans, and Snow Geese are scattered in the area. Snowy Owls are still being observed as they move north.

We saw it as we drove east through Balsam, just as we were leaving the village. Myrtle Rd runs east-west, about 5 km north of 407. It screamed across the grass at 5 ft off the deck and floated around and over the hilltop, providing excellant views. Finally it headed east and did a dive into a flock of pigeons near an apartment building but failed to make a kill. Then it slowly climbed high into the sky and headed off in a south eastern direction. The bird was there from 2:10 to 2:30 PM, Wed, Mar 29. Also saw a Goshawk and a Merlin. iain wilkes "happy with a new lifer"
