A great day at the Niagara Hawkwatch--excellent weather, the largest
turnout of birders & observers, and the highest count of raptors
to-date. The final count for the day was approximately 830 birds of
10 species. Red-shouldered hawks (81), red-tailed hawks (230, of
which 1 was a dark morph), turkey vultures (345), sharp-shinned hawks
(119), cooper's hawks (24), american kestrel (1), rough-legged hawk
(11, of which 8 were light phase, 3 dark phase),
bald eagle (1), golden eagle (2), osprey (1), and unidentified raptors
(15, including 1 eagle that was the source of some dispute). Other
interesting birds were great blue heron, fox sparrow, common loon,
red-bellied woodpecker, and wood duck.

Saw 4 Northern Harriers this afternoon between noon and 4pm. Saw one on
Donnelly Road about half way between North Gower Road and Burritt's Rapids.
Saw two on Snowdon Road and Pioneer Road south of Merrickville (between
County Road 15 and Bolton Road) and another on a gravel road east of South
Gower Road and south of Hwy 43.

While out during the Maple syrup Festival in Campbellville I heard a full
blown chorus of peepers, a few calling wood frogs, mink frogs, two chorus
frogs, and a single tadpole
it was quite suprizng!and fantastic to hear!
