I had a quick look in the pond at 8:00AM on the way to work. There
where three other birders there and they said that they had not seen
them yet this AM. Will check again later today to see if they come back

Subject: [Ontbirds]Black-necked Stilts still at Brighton - 7:45 pm April
11

Drove down after work. The birds were easily seen from 6:30 until I left
at 7:45.

Lots of ducks. Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal, American Widgeon,
Northern Shoveler, Lesser Scaup, Mallard, Black Duck, Wood Duck,
Bufflehead.

Heard Virginia Rail and saw Purple Martins and Tree Swallows overhead.

Directions from Doug McRae's earlier posting:

>From Hwy. 401 take Cty. Rd. 30 south to Brighton. Go
south through the two traffic lights, over the railway tracks, and as
you near the Lake the road (Prince Edward St. at this point) swings
left. The ponds are on the south (right) side just as you complete
the turn. There is a viewing deck and the birds are about 100-150m
away, about 45 degrees to the left if you are looking straight out
from the deck.

There was a male Eurasian Wigeon this morning on the Quebec side of the
Ottawa River visible from the "Marais des Laiches Ouest" parking area at the
east edge of Gatineau, mixed in with a couple dozen American Wigeon and a
variety of other waterfowl in mostly small numbers in the various marshes &
bays along the river.

Directions: From downtown Gatineau/Hull, follow Hwy 148 East for 7.5km from
the Lac Beauchamp entrance road. There are signs along the highway for the
various park accesses; this is the first one east of town and is well
labeled with a sign 10m before the road. Turn south on the access road
(looks more like a driveway at first) and follow it just under 1km to the
end. The marsh is flooded by the river and visible by looking south from the
parking area at the end of the road.

Hi everyone,

As of 1045 the stilts have not been seen, nor were they located at
any nearby potential sites, but there is a male Eurasian Wigeon at
Presqu'ile NE of Coot Lookout (the first gravel pull-over on the
left, after the first cluster of cottages as you travel east on the
cottage road (Bayshore Rd.). It was alone near the eastern-most
portion of the marsh. I also had a Cackling Goose go over with 30
Canada's at the beach at 630 this morning, and there were 24 Red-
throated Loons off the beach, including two in breeding colours.

Cheers,

Doug
