Sadly, between 5:30 and 6:30 I was unable to find any cranes 5 km. east
of Sanford or anywhere else in the immediate area. None of the people I
spoke to - who had come from afar - had any luck as far as I know. R. Pope

Good morning,
I just received a phone call from Ken McIlwrick that the male
Eurasian Wigeon was still present this morning at Neibauer's Marsh/
Pond. He indicated that it was very active and that it wasn't always
easy to locate, at one time wandering out of sight into the corn
stubble. He also mentioned the following were also present:
American Wigeon - 50
Ruddy Duck
Northern Pintail
American Black Duck
lots of American Coots
Good birding,
Karl Konze
Directions as per Jason Miller:
Neibauer's Marsh is located along Wellington County Road 32, roughly
half-way between Cambridge and Guelph. Easiest access is by traveling
south on CR32 from highway 24, which runs from Cambridge to Guelph.
The "marsh" is right at the road, and looks more like a flooded
portion of farm fields, its hard to miss.
Sorry for the poor directions, a map with coordinates is available at:
http://www.naturesbestcreations.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32
Or email me and I will try to provide better directions.

Early this am at Reesor Pond in Markham, a remarkable [correct me if
I'm wrong] assemblage of 12 Glaucous and Iceland gulls in various
plumage stages - of note
were 2 juvenile Herring and 1 adult Glaucous gulls robbing Lesser
scaup just as
they surfaced with their catch.
Reesor Pond lies just North of Hwy 407 on Reesor Road just South of
Hwy 7 in Markam - cheers - Stan Long

Hi all,
This morning (Sat. April 15) Peter Burke and I saw a male EURASIAN WIGEON
(first record for Peterborough Co.) among a large raft of ducks off of
Serpent Mounds Provincial Park on the north shore of Rice Lake. The raft was
largely made up of Ring-necked Ducks (ca. 700) with lesser numbers of
American Wigeon (ca. 135), Lesser Scaup (ca. 30), Redhead (10-20) and a few
Gadwall. The Eurasian Wigeon was hanging out in the western end of the raft.
Other ducks present included Common Merganser, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead,
Greater Scaup and 1 young male RUDDY DUCK.
Two LAPLAND LONGSPURS also flew overhead. An immature Bald Eagle was also
flying over the lake at one point.
DIRECTIONS: Serpent Mounds Provincial Park is located south of the village
of Keene at the end of Serpent Mounds Rd. Park at the closed gate and walk
down the road ca. 300m to the lake. The raft of ducks were located directly
offshore.
Good birding,
Colin Jones
