A sunny but cool morning greeted birders first thing this morning. It was a little difficult to appreciate that the light winds were roughly from the south. Aside from the bright sunny conditions, few birds were seen this morning. Things were so quiet that no other warblers, other than Yellow, were observed on the Park Bird Hike! Its very likely, the odd Nashville Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler etc. were also around, but it just shows how quiet it was. Most visitors had to be satisfied with both species of oriole, which were pretty vocal. However, the most exciting observation near the Tip was Whip-poor-will.
Elsewhere in the Park, the following have been reported: Hooded Warbler - 1 @ Tilden's woods Golden-winged and Blue-winged Warbler - 1 each @ Black Willow Yellow-breasted Chat - 1-2 north of Cemetery Cerulean Warbler, White-eyed Vireo, Brown Creeper - 1 each @ Post Woods Northern Waterthrush and Brewster's Warbler - Woodland Nature Trail Outside the park, a male Brewer's Blackbird was reported from Hillman Marsh. Also seen yesterday: Sedge Wren - 1 west beach north of tip train loop White-rumped Sandpiper and Red-necked Phalarope - Hillman Marsh Cape May Warbler - NW Beach Wild Turkey - Near Shuster Trail Rusty Blackbird - Woodland Nature Trail Good Birding Friends of Point Pelee John Haselmayer, Karl Konze, Ross Mackintosh, Dave Martin, Pete Read, and Marianne Reid PS - This weekend is your LAST CHANCE to buy tickets to the fundraising dinner, with guest speaker Bobby Harrison discussing the rediscovery of the IVORY-BILLED WOODPECKER.
