Wednesday, 10th May Kip Daynard had 5 new species for the Kincardine
Lagoons. New birds were, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher at the NW corner of lagoons
near cemetry, Blue-winged Warbler(singing) at the western end of Rail line,
Red-eyed Vireo, Great Crested Flycatcher, Cedar Waxwing & Black-throated
Blue Warbler.
I myself have seen American Redstart, Black-throated Blue Warbler, singing
White Crowned Sparrow in wooded ares out side Port Elgin.
John Pedlar has seen Black-throated Blue Warbler and Common Yellowthroat in
the park the last two days.
Doug Pedwell who lives in the country between Southampton and Port Elgin has
had Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Baltimore Oriole and Ruby-throated Hummingbird
at his feeders. He also still has a pair of Pine Siskin along with the
American Goldfinch that frequent his feeders. In the fields around his house
there are Eastern Meadowlark, Eastern Bluebird, Bobolink. Great Blue Heron
and Great Egret fly back and forth from Chantry Island to the feed along the
Saugeen River. There are also nesting Red-tail Hawk, American Kestrel and
Great Horned Owl in the area around his house.
Chantry Island has approx. 30 Great Egret Nests, 35 - 40 Great Blue Heron
nests along with the hundreds of Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull and
Double-crested Cormorant that nest as well. Black-crowned Night Heron also
nest on the island.

Directions
To reach MacGregor Point Provincial Park. From Hwy #21 south of Port Elgin,
turn west on 4th Conc. Saugeen and follow the signs to the Park.
To reach the Kincardine Lagoons. From Hwy #21 south of Kincardine, turn west
on Saratoga Rd. and follow the dirt road to a parking area at the Rail
Trail. The lagoons and trail are on the your right.
Doug Pedwell lives on the Doll Sideroad. It is reached b from Bruce County
Rd. #3 just south of the Saugeen Golf course. Turn north and drive about 200
metres and his house is on your irght.

The HURON FRINGE BIRDING FESTIVAL takes place every year at MacGregor Point
Provincial Park.
This year the 9th Annual Festival takes place MAY 26 TO JUNE 4. There are
over 80 events and over 40 top notch leaders. The migration corridor along
the shore of Lake Huron known as "The Huron Fringe", extending from
Kincardine to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula is the area we cover. Our
birding hikes, presentations and workshops are lead by very competent
birders and naturalists from all Ontario and Michigan. All birders and
naturalists from the beginner to the more advanced will find something to
pique their interests.
