Birders,
I spent 2-3 hours at the Lighthouse area at Cabot Head on the Bruce
Peninsula early in the afternoon on Thursday, May 25, and had 18 species
of warbler as follows:
Tennessee
Nashville
Northern Parula
Yellow
Chestnut-sided
Magnolia
Cape May
Black-throated Blue
Yellow-rumped
Black-throated Green
Blackburnian
Bay-breasted
Blackpoll
Black-and-white
American Redstart
Mourning
Wilson's
Canada.
The warblers were singing fairly persistently when the sun was shining,
and were very difficult to see in the cedars and unusually dense foliage
for this time of year.
Other noteworthy individuals present: Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Red-bellied
Woodpecker, Red-headed Woodpecker, and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. All
except the Red-headed Woodpecker were vocalizing. Sorry for the
lateness in this post!

Cabot Head can be reached from Wiarton by heading north on Highway 6 to
past Mar and Ferndale, and approximately 2-3 km past the hamlet of
Miller Lake to Dyers Bay Road. Go right on Dyer's Bay Road tp the
T-intersection, turn right and proceed on this road making a 45 degree
turn to the left to another T-intersection, turn left past Rocky Raccoon
Restaurant (if you're not hungry!) and stay on this road for several km
until you come to a "No Exit" sign. Turn right and then approximately
0.3-0.5 km turn right at the "To Lighthouse" and "Cabot Head" signs.
Proceed along this narrow winding road along the lakeshore below the
bluffs until you come to a sign that says "Parking" and "Welcome to
Cabot Head". Please drive this road cautiously as there often is not
much room for passing cars going the opposite direction! Walk a very
short distance past the signs to check the lawn and trees near the
lighthouse keeper's house and the lighthouse.
