Hello Ontbirders

I just received information of a Swallow-tailed Kite observed this morning (around 8:30am) flying from northeast to southwest along the shores of Crosby Lake. Crosby Lake is west of Perth, north of Westport. Although I can't confirm this sighting, Pete Stothart, the observer, provided a very credible report, enough to warrant this posting. He described the unmistakable character and behaviour of this species, and referenced his use of specialty "hawk" field guides. He made his observation from his home on the Southeast shores of Crosby Lake.

Directions:
From Hwy 7, Perth - take Hwy 6 (Christie Lake Rd) southwest, to the village of Althorpe. There are several small roads leading to the north shores of Crosby Lake from both sides of Althorpe. From Hwy 10, Perth - turn right on Lennon Road. this road leads to Little Crosby Lake Road, and access to the southeast side of the lake. From Hwy 15, Crosby - take Hwy 42 west to Westport. Continue northwest on Hwy 36, turning right onto Big Crosby Lake Road. This road branches into several smaller roads accessing the south side of the lake.

Note that there are several access points to different part of the lake from each of these directions.

Good Luck and Cheerio
