This is Chris Lewis reporting. The past 2 weeks have been, not surprisingly, very slow for bird reports. From June 26th through the 1st week of July, there were several sightings of Black-crowned Night-Herons in traditional areas such as Mud Lake in Britannia and the Rideau River at Billings Bridge, as well as a pair of Sandhill Cranes in a field near the Alfred Bog boardwalk, and a total of 5 Green Herons at a pond in the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. On the evening of the 6th, Sedge Wrens were again noted in the Richmond Fen along the railroad tracks, and the Mer Bleue area continues to host "eastern" or "yellow" PALM WARBLERS (2 were seen here on the 8th) as well as Lincoln's and Clay-coloured Sparrows. The best recent find was a single CASPIAN TERN on the sandbar in the Ottawa River at the east end of Andrew Haydon Park on the evening of the 7th. And the Wild Turkey of Britannia continues to surprise and amuse local birders and residents - this bird has made irregular appearances in the Britannia Conservation Area since early spring, and was most recently spotted on the 9th. This year's downtown PEREGRINE FALCON Watch will begin on July 16th. With only one chick to monitor, it is hoped that all will go smoothly, however volunteers are always required and appreciated. To participate, please contact Falcon Watch Coordinator Eve Ticknor at 613-737-7551 or e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] or Volunteer Scheduler Melanie Moore at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you - Good Birding! - End transcript
