This afternoon there were a dozen species of waterfowl and 4 kinds of waterbirds at the Alfred Sewage Lagoons including:
- 61 adult and 40 young RUDDY DUCK in 5 families,
- 1 male LESSER SCAUP,
- 2 families of REDHEAD
-  and 64 AMERICAN COOT (adults and young).

No shorebird habitat meant no shorebirds at the lagoons but just down the road in a wet field were:
- 20 Killdeer
- 7 Least Sandpiper
- 1 Solitary Sandpiper
- 5 Lesser Yellowlegs
- 1 Wilson's Snipe

DIRECTIONS: From the town of Alfred go east on Highway 17, then turn south on Peat Moss Road and drive for 2 km. The lagoons are on your left (east side of road). Contact (during weekdays) Richard Villeneuve, Township of Alfred and Plantagenet at (613) 679-2292 for the required permit to enter the lagoons.
