Hi Everyone
Today, August 19, 2006 birded the Ottawa River from Britannia to
Shirley's Bay. There was a good movement of warblers along the ridge with
the highlight an imm./female Connecticut Warbler which made a brief
appearance at the west end of the ridge before disappearing and wasn't
relocated. Other warblers of note including 1 Wilson's, 1 Palm and 2 Cape
May. Off Britannia Point below Deschenes Rapids a breeding plumage
Red-necked Grebe was observed as well as 150+ Great Black-backed Gull, 100
Double-crested Cormorant and 4 Black-crowned Night-Heron.
At Andrew Haydon Park, a White-winged Scoter was observed in flight
and landed out on the lake. With lower water levels, shorebird watching
conditions have improved and 15 species were counted between Andrew Haydon
Park and Shirley's Bay. Highlights included 1 Ruddy Turnstone (AHP), 4
Red-necked Phalarope, 2 Stilt Sandpiper, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, 175+
Lesser Yellowlegs, 100+ Semipalmated/Least Sandpiper and 2 Black-bellied
plover at Shirley's Bay.
Yesterday, August 18th, Ben and I counted 8 Red-headed Woodpeckers at
the old burn site at Constance Bay.
good birding,
Bruce
