Hi Everyone
The Shirley's Bay area continues to attract migrating shorebirds despite a reduced mudflat due to yesterday's rain fall. Highlights included 1 Red-necked Phalarope, 2 Baird's Sandpiper, 2 Stilt Sandpiper, and 9 Short-billed Dowitcher. All birds were in juvenile plumage. Also watched a young Northern Harrier trying to pick up a very large dead Carp along the edge of the mudflat. The Carp was slightly submerged and after 9 attempts at pouncing on the carcass, the harrier gave up and flew away. It was certainly an interesting observation to witness. At Andrew Haydon Park, there were 2 adult "molting" Sanderlings
