Weather:
Today saw clearing in the morning, becoming mainly sunny but with
substantial amounts of cumulous clouds developing. By late afternoon,
heavier clouds moved into the area along with thunderstorms. Winds were
light and somewhat variable during the morning becoming moderate southeast
in the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
Today’s migration was similar to yesterday’s movement with a slow buildup
but dropping off more quickly in the afternoon, perhaps influenced by the
wind direction and the developing weather system. There was no
particularly well-established flight line, with birds scattered over the
entire sky, not unusual given the light winds. Highlighting the day was
the considerable Bald Eagle passage including a kettling group of seven
juveniles seen during the early afternoon. Overall for the day, 124 birds
of 10 species were tallied.

Non-raptor Observations:
This was the busiest day for Monarchs so far this fall. From about mid
morning on through to the end of the day, you could scan in any direction,
high or low, near or far and see a continuous flow of butterflies.
