Birders:
I was out birding in Prince Edward County near Belleville on Monday, October
30th. I had an excellent view of a juvenile golden eagle flying over Picton.
A very disturbing experience happened when I was birding along the shores of
Lake Ontario at Sandbanks Provincial Park. Along a half kilometre stretch of
what is called "Campers Beach", going south along the shore from the Outlet
River, I counted 51 dead common loons.
They did not appear bloated. There was blood coming from the mouths of many of
them.
I reported it to the staff at Sandbanks and they may send some to Guelph for
testing. They suggested it could be bocilism. If anyone reading this can help
me understand what may have caused this I would much appreciate it if you would
email me privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Directions to Picton: 401 to Belleville South on 62 to Hwy.33 and along that
road to Picton.
Regards
Lloyd Paul

Observers:

Visitors:
Had a visit from a local individual...Fred Murhpy who stopped to chat.

Weather:
More rotten weather...drizzle to start and then solid rain . Temp was warm
to start at 13C and remained even for the time we did the count. Winds
were moderate from the W. The clearing trend has been just too slow to
move through the Hawk Cliff area.

Raptor Observations:
Just a few birds braving the rain...total of 5.

Non-raptor Observations:

Predictions:
Looking good for Wednesday...should be sunny with cloudy periods...I would
think we'll see a bit of a flight after the rainy weather today.
