Hi Everyone
Today, I observed a male Am. Three-toed Woodpecker along Vance's Side Road near the old "Dunrobin dump site". On Sunday and again on Monday, Carole and Kenneth Williams observed 2 Black-backed Woodpeckers in the Pinhey Forest, which is located off Slack Road between Merivale Road and Woodroffe Ave. There definitely appears to be a south bound movement of both Am. Three-toed and Black-backed Woodpeckers. It's too early to tell if it will continue but it's interesting that both species have been reported in varying numbers and it's been a few decades since the big flights of the mid 70's and early 80's. This maybe the tip of the iceberg! Check your favourite woodpecker spots - Am. Three-toed and Black-backed may be there! good birding Bruce

Directions: From Ottawa travel west bound on Hwy. 417 to
the March Rd./Eagleson Road and exit right onto March Rd. Follow to Dunrobin
Road and turn right continuing northwest to Vance's Side Road. Turn right and continue past bridge and watch for old dump site on the left near the quarry entrance.
