Today from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dave Don and I stood on the sheltered east side of Lakeland Community Centre. At 10:30 when I arrived we had nice looks at a Black-legged Kittiwake flying west up the beach. The bird (or another one) had been seen a few minutes earlier by Dave.
At 11:15 a.m. the gulls were flushed at Hutches and a gorgeous adult Pomarine Jaeger came barreling down the beach about 100 yards out. We watched it for about 10 minutes as it harrassed gulls, landed on the water a couple of times and then went back out further on the lake. Red-throated Loon, Common Loon, lots of ducks and scoters out there to keep you busy as well. Directions : To reach Van Wagner's Road, take the Centennial Parkway exit from the QEW and proceed north to Van Wagner's Road. The Lakeland Centre Tower is one to two hundred metres west of Hutch's Restaurant which is west of Centennial. Good birding, Cheryl Edgecombe
