The Harlequin Duck continues to be seen just west of Bronte Harbour. This
morning she was close to shore with a Horned Grebe. Other birds seen include a
Red-throated Loon far offshore, several Common Loons, several Red-necked Grebes
and 10 Hooded Mergansers. While I was enjoying a close scope view of a Coopers
Hawk perched on the Lighthouse Restaurant a small bird fluttered onto the path.
It turned out to be a Brown Creeper. The creeper is now in a box in our living
room regaining its senses (I hope). Otherwise it may be going to the ROM.

Directions: Exit the QEW at Bronte Rd. (Oakville) and go to the lake. I saw the
harlequin from the pier on the east side of Bronte Creek but a closer view
could be had from the other side. The west side is reached by turning right
onto Lakeshore Rd., crossing the bridge and making the first left.

In my last post I mentioned having a semi-conscious Brown Creeper in a box in
the living room. I am happy to report that the bird somehow managed to escape
from the box and came into the bedroom where it was searching the carpet
(unsuccessfully) for insects. Having proven its competence I caught the creeper
again and liberated it from the balcony. Sorry Mark (of the ROM) you are not
getting this one.

Birders,
This Saturday morning at 11:30 I came across a very co-operative WESTERN
GREBE off P9 at Pinery Provincial Park. I watched it for over an hour, and
obtained photos. Pete Chapman came up to view the bird as well.

Directions: Pinery Park is just ten minutes south of Grand Bend on highway
21 along Lake Huron. In the park, all roads are open today, but turn left
at the fork in the road within the park, and proceed towards store. Cross
over bridge and follow road until you come to beach area P9 (well signed).
Continue out to the beach area where you can park. This is a long stretch
that you can drive along, so check outlets to the beach. The grebe was just
offshore moving back and forth along the P9 area. Entrance fee is required,
but it is a self serve station at the store.
