With a calm west wind, sunny skies, falling BP and a TUV=1 the
raptor-watchers had their doubts for a lakefront migratory flight. After 2
hours the only hawks were the "resident hunters".
From the platorm non-raptors included--adult Northern Shrike, Kingfisher,
Red-breasted Nuthatch. There was a skin of ice covering much of the wetland
in front of us, until 10am.
Reported viewing on Cranberry's east-side pond on Nov.22--7 Ruddy Ducks.
Also, on that date a Ring-necked Pheasant was heard near the waterfront from
the private road leading south from the Lynde Shores CA parking lot.
Several people have seen an immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER over the past 10
days or so--with any luck you may see it on a telephone pole in front of the
corner house, on the west side of Hall's Rd.--it has been seen stuffing corn
kernels. This morning it was being harassed by a Hairy Woodpecker.
A reminder to photographers--if you intend to come down before and after
the> CMRW closes down, please bring bird feed (bear in mind that the large>
garbage pail will not be available for storage after Nov.30)>
Nov.23- 2 hrs. at CMRW
