Hi all,

I found a Black-backed Woodpecker this morning at the entrance of the Maxville Sewage Lagoons. The many white feathers around the lagoon ponds indicate that Snow Geese have recently rested there. Those looking for Snow Geese might also want to check these lagoons just before dusk.

Photo of Black-backed Woodpecker and Snow Geese can be found here:

DIRECTIONS to Maxville SL:

On Hwy 417 east of Casselman take exit 51 and turn south towards Maxville. Go about 2 km, then turn right on Athol Rd. Go about 1 km and turn left (south) on a dirt road just before house 18102. Drive to entrance of lagoons at the end of the road. The woodpecker was seen briefly at the top of the tallest White Elm on the west side (right) where it foraged for about a minute then flew into the woodlot on the east side (left) of the dirt road.

Happy Holidays,
