Several birders looked hard for the Mew Gull reported on Friday but came up
empty today. In addition a couple of birders looked most of yesterday
afternoon for it without success.

Despite the miss, the river was excellent for large gulls today. In fact it
was the best we have seen it so far this season, especially above Niagara
Falls. In that area we had about 6 Iceland Gulls, 8 Lesser Black-backed
Gulls, and 2-3 Glaucous Gulls (one adult and one or two second-winters).
This is the best showing of the season for all three species. At the Adam
Beck overlook we probably had over a dozen Iceland Gulls, two or three birds
that fit Thayer's Gull (adult and second-winter), and one
juvenile/first-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull. In addition at Adam Beck we
had the adult CALIFORNIA GULL, and the juvenile BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE.
Other than a brief stop at the Whirlpool (Aero car) we hardly looked at
small gulls though I suspect there are still many in the Lewiston/Queenston
area. We also had a few slightly darker-mantled Herring-type gulls.

Good birding!
