My apologies; You may be receiving this message a second time. I have done very
little bird-reporting lately, and may have selected a wrong e-mail address the
first time.

On the morning of Jan.13 I led a caravan of cars with 16 members of the
Pickering Naturalists from southwest Pickering to the vicinity of Claremont CA,
stopping at various feeders en route. The lack of snow has not concentrated the
birds at feeders. Among the 28 species noted over a period of 4 hours were 4
woodpecker species, including 1) a Pileated that was heard for 10 minutes while
we watched him work on trees in a backyard overlooking the Rouge valley, and 2)
a male Red-bellied Woodpecker in the backyard of a house across the street from
437 Churchwin St. in Whitevale-- Whitevale is just to the east of Altona Rd.
on Concession 5--east of the bridge turn north on Mill St. to the first street
(Churchwin).

The NHO was at the same site today near Brennan's Hill about a 45 minute
drive north of Ottawa today. Several other birders/photographers were
there. Owl moves fairly frequently and if one is patient, often sits on
fence posts on east side of road (toward open field).

Directions: Hwy 5 and 105 north from Hull to Brennan's Hill - look for BH
restaurant on left and turn left there onto McDonald. Continue 8 km to open
field just past Legault on right side of road.
