Good evening . Today I again tagged along with Margaret Liubavicius as we birded Humber Bay Park, Sunnyside Beach and a short walk through High Park.
Among the 19 Waterfowl species we found at Humber Bay was a Horned Grebe, 3 Swan species including a 1st summer Tundra Swan, a beautiful male Harlequin Duck off the far east point of Humber Bay Park east, Ring-necked, and Ruddy Ducks along with the usual species of Waterfowl. We also found 2 N. Mockingbirds and 2 Horned Larks. At Sunnyside Beach among the 200 or so Gulls was a 1st year Glaucous Gull and in High Park we found the Red-bellied Woodpecker at Spring and Centre Roads. One of the surprises in High Park were some A. Robins, not that we saw some but the that we counted 106 of them. There were probably more but that is what we saw. After exiting this area turn left (west) and drive to the entrance to Humber Bay West which immediately on your left as you cross the bridge. SUNNYSIDE BEACH Sunnyside Beach is at the south end of High Park and across Lakeshore Blvd. You can reach it by taking the Queen Street Streetcar #501 and getting off at either Parkside Drive, Colborne Lodge, Ellis Ave. or Windemere Ave. and going south under the railway tracks and across Lakeshore Blvd. If you are driving then you can park in one of several parking lots (free) on the south side of Lakeshore Blvd. HIGH PARK High Park is located in the west end of Toronto and is bounded on the south by The Queensway, the north by Bloor Street and on the east by Parkside Drive.
