Today saw most of the birds mentioned by Mike Boyd in his recent
posting. Most exciting were over 150 Sandhill Cranes along Lakeshore
Rd. just west of the Causeway. Also, 3 Pied-billed Grebes,
Canvasbacks, many Coot, 1 Ruddy Duck, Tundra and Mute Swans at Big
Creek bridge over the Causeway. Many Cowbirds, a Grackle at a feeder
  in Port Rowan.
Several raptors too including 2 Eastern Screech owls, an
immature Golden Eagle, an immature Bald Eagle eating a Coot, 6
  Rough-legged Hawks, 11 Harriers.
New winter birds were Flicker near Fisher's Glen, 3 Eastern
Bluebirds ( + Red-bellied Woodpecker) on the road into Spooky Hollow,
2 Field Sparrows at roadside with a flock of Tree Sparrows 150 m. west
of #24 East on Charlotteville East 1\4 Line near house # 594. Other
sparrows included Swamp, Song and White-throated.
Lengthy search produced no Gray Partridge at Brantford Airport
, but there were many Canada Geese on the adjacent fields and 22
  Horned Larks at the roadside.

This is sort of a test. The internet does not always work to plan. Although the most recent post from Dave Milsom made to my mailbox in under a minute, recent repeat postings indicate that Ontbirds may be experiencing message delays. If you don't see your posting right away, be happy, it is on the way (probably). Check your sent box. Visit the OFO website and check the archives. We all realize that prompt reporting of sightings are appreciated and important to our readers but wait.

If you do have a cosmic mind-bender remember there are always other ways of getting the word out (the phone for example)

Hi All,

Apologies for a late post....but I've been having significant problems =
with my interent connectivity.=20

Matt Oswald and I took a drive down to the location near Fisherville (on =
Thursday) to check for the Short-eared Owls and had great success. We =
found 12 SEOW's along with 2 Northern Harriers (adult male and =
immature), 2 Roughlegs and 1 Redtail. At one point the immature harrier =
dove on a SEOW that had a mouse...and the owl dropped its catch. =
Unfortunately for the harrier, it didn't seem to be able to find it as =
it flew off without its plundered prize.

The location is as described by Bill Morden and in previous posts...in =
the area in and around the Raptor Preserve on the 6th concession north =
of Fisherville. We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and immediately had the =
Roughlegs hunting in the raptor preserve along with a single adult =
Redtail. Just after 5:15 the SEOW's made their appearance along with the =
harriers and we watched them until it was to dark to see.
