Hi All,

The White-winged Crossbills were still busy feeding at the Patterson Tract near Rockton, Flamborough at 2pm today (Sat). Thanks Rob Dobos for a great find in the middle of nowhere.

Also flushed was a Ruff Grouse, that put the Crossbills up in the air, at least 10, mostly males. They soon settled on top of a spruce tree to resume feeding. The best way to find these birds is through their contact calls. I searched for over an hour before locating them.

Directions: This tract of forest can be found on the 4th Concession Road West, a few 100 metres west of Wood Hill Road on the north side of the road. Park by the concrete blocks, which is the entrance to the tract and take the main trail north. The birds were all seen within a 500 metre radius of a bright orange hunters hat on the main trail.

Good hunting,
Dave
