After a meeting this morning at 77 City Centre Drive in Mississauga (adjacent to Square One), I was standing in the parking lot to the east of the building and observed a large falcon flying back and forth over the roof of the building at 77 City Centre Drive. The bird was making a lot of noise - that is what attracted my attention. I observed it for 3-4 minutes and I hate to admit that I couldn't confirm its identification, even though it was only 50-75 feet off the ground.
The bird was the size of a Peregrine, too small for a Gyr. However, it had no distinguishing marks at all on the flank, breast or belly (pure white/cream). The tail was also plain, grading from body to tip from white to rust, with a black tip. The underside of the wings were unremarkable, with the exception of the tips which were dark. The head was also unremarkable, with the exception of dark bars on the side of the face. I know Peregrines have been confirmed to nest on Robert Speck, just to the east. This seems early for Peregrines to be back. Any help with this identification would be greatly appreciated!
