At 10:28 there are about 200 swans on the south side of Highway 401 opposite
the service station on the westbound lanes west of London near Dutton. Some
are still flying in.

It has begun. I was about to phone my contact in New York State to see
what's going on with the Greater Snow Geese but it wasn't necessary. At
1:30 I began to see small flocks of 150-300, with a few larger ones of 400
or so. They were moving east along the 401 towards Quebec. I'm up to about
1,500 with tens of thousands to come in the next few days. Traditional
locations to check for birds on the ground are east of Lancaster along the
river as well as along county roads north of that location. Some flocks
will move north to Riceville, Alfred, Calsbad Springs and points in
between.

On Tuesday we were still in the middle of winter here with a considerable
amount of snowcover. Most of it wanished in 24 hours and today there is not
much left. Instant spring.

I finished off the day with 2,800 Greater Snow Geese passing over the north
end of Cornwall heading east this afternoon.
For gravy, an adult Peregrine that has been hanging around the city for
about a month made a few passes at close range, against a background of my
first vultures for the spring. It was in hot pursuit of some of the
Albanian high flyer pigeons across the street. It was incredibly close at
one point but ended up pigeon one, Peregrine zero. Rock Pigeons may not
have been as successful.

I will be compiling sightings of this spring's Greater Snow Goose migration
in Eastern Ontario and would appreciate receiving e-mails about locations,
dates, time and numbers. I will scan Ontbirds but you can forward

Greetings Fellow Birders,=20

The number of TRUMPETER SWANS has doubled. There are now two at the =
narrows in Orillia. I also spotted a HOODED MERGANSER, a BELTED =
KINGFISHER, COMMON MERGANSERS, COMMON GOLDEN-EYES, CANADA GEESE, and =
more. The open water area is growing rapidly. You can expect more good =
sightings here.

Orillia is 30 min north of Barrie on Hwy 11 then take the hwy 12 east =
exit.

The Atherly Narrows or Orillia Narrows or just the Narrows connect Lake =
Simcoe and Lake Couchiching. For a good and easily accessible location =
go to the east side of the bridge turn south on Queen St. (before the =
mini Tim Hortons). Then turn immediately right on Bridge. Park at the =
end of Bridge St. and walk underneath the bridge (there is a paved =
path).=20

Here is the Google map link to the location (you can zoom in or out as =
needed):

Shortly after 4 pm this afternoon a WHOOPING CRANE flew low over Wild
Rose Guest House, 21298 Harbour Road. The bird called once and then
sailed slowly westward towards the centre of town flying quite low.
Although this is almost certainly a reintro bird of some sort, I am
still in shock! And I dont care what the nitpickers say, its on my
yard list!

Good birding!

Hi All
Went to Bronte Creek Provincial Park was able to find 1 Saw Whet Owl in =
a stand of pine trees & only 20ft away were 4 Long Eared Owls. Also in =
the same area at the edge of an open field I came across an Eastern =
Phoebe. Also seen today were a number of Song Sparrows,Red-winged =
Blackbirds,a soaring Turkey Vulture & 3 soaring Red-tailed Hawks, What =
was rather interesting the Saw Whet had a mouse on the branch having =
breakfast. I did get pictures of the Saw Whet & the Phoebe. A rather =
rewarding morning.
Directions to the park. North on Bronte Rd from the QEW to Upper Middle =
Rd turn left this will take you to the east entrance of the park. The =
owls were in a stand of pines in the north east campground.

Hi Birders,

Marienna managed to find an Eurasian Widgeon in Port Rowan today.
It could have been the same Bird, reported earlier from the greater area =
of Port Rowan.
It was with a great number of Redheads and a few American Widgeons.
We found it at the Boat House Restaurant, basically in the Bay of Port =
Rowan.
The Widgeon at one point was very close to the shore, at the edge of the =
ice. (about forty meters out)
It was found at around 11:00 Am Today.

Good Luck.
Karl and Marienna Egressy.

Direction:

In Port Rowan take Front Road and drive towards Downtown.=20
You sound see a sign: Boat House Restaurant along the road.
Turn into the road leading to the Marina.
Pass the Restaurant. There is a little Parketta there where you can view =
the Ducks,
hopefully including the Eurasian Widgeon.
