About 10 am a Black Vulture along with a dozen Turkey Vultures flew south
into the Park and has been passing over the Visitor Centre Parking area
several times...as this report is being written, at 11. The main report
with other highlights will be written soon.

A Black Vulture was over the park this morning.  It was seen frequently
from the VC parking lot.

A Henslow's Sparrow was seen by several birders on the West Beach Trail.

Warblers seen today include Mourning (Woodland Tr.), Blue-winged(Post
Woods), and Blackburnian and Pine at Sleepy Hollow.  There have been
reports of the  Worm-eating Warbler being heard but no sighting yet today.

Whip-poor-will was heard on the Woodland Trail this morning.  Two Sandhill
Cranes were observed flying over the Marsh area.

 Outside the Park  a Marbled Godwit is in fields on Road D.  In that same
area a Peregrine Falcon was observed as well.

Brown Thrashers and Sandhill Cranes have returned in numbers, and are being
seen around Saugeen Shores in different locations.
Around Southampton and Port Elgin White-crowned Sparrows, White-throated
Sparrows, Veery and Hermit Thrush are shwing up.
Chantry Island has many Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Double-crested
Cormorants and Herring & Ringed-billed Gull on nests.
MacGregor Point Park on Tuesday evening were many American Woodcock, Rufffed
Grouse, White Throated sparrows singing until dark. The woodcock were
"penting" and doing there arial Displays well after dark.
This morning in the park Woodpeckers were many and loud. There were
Pileated, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Downy, Hairy and Northern Flicker. Swamp
Sparrows were calling, and Pied Billed Grebe were seen along the Tower
Trail.

Directions
To reach MacGregor Point Provincial Park. From Hwy #21 south of Port Elgin,
turn west on 4th Conc. Saugeen and follow the signs to the Park.
The Bruce/Saugeen Townline which is the southern boundary of MacGregor Point
Park runs west from the hamlet of North Bruce on Hwy. #21 to the shore of
Lake Huron. DU pond is approx. 5 km west of North Bruce on a gravel road
which has a no exit sign at the east end.
The J/I sideroad is a gravel road running north and south one conc. west of
Hwy. #21 from the Bruce/Saugeen townline and ends in the village of
Tiverton. The 12th Conc. Bruce, is the first intesection south of the
townline.
Chantry Island is easily viewed from the parking lot at the foot of Beach
st. Beach St. is 5 blocks south of High St along Huron St.

The HURON FRINGE BIRDING FESTIVAL takes place every year at MacGregor Point
Provincial Park.
This year the 10th Annual Festival takes place MAY 25 TO JUNE 3, 2007 There
are over 80 events and over 40 top notch leaders. The migration corridor
along the shore of Lake Huron known as "The Huron Fringe", extending from
Kincardine to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula is the area we cover. Our
birding hikes, presentations and workshops are lead by very competent
birders and naturalists from all over Ontario and Michigan. All birders and
naturalists from the beginner to the more advanced will find something to
pique their interests.
Birds of Prey with Ross Snider, Sabrina and Scooter (flying Sqirrels) with
Steve Patterson, the truth about Bats with Erin Fraser and Wonderful Wings
with Chris Guglielmo a talk on migration are some of the evening events that
naturalists will find entertaining.
