RED-NECKED GREBE and HORNED GREBE on Lake Bernard.
LONG-TAILED DUCKS arrived on Lake Bernard on May 10 with a flock of about 30
birds.
Two SEMIPALMATED PLOVER at Sundridge Lagoon on May 8
SOLITARY SANDPIPER on the banks of the South River and Powassan Lagoon
LEAST SANDPIPER at Sundridge lagoon on May 8 (1) and May 19 (2)

OWL SURVEY RESULTS: east of the Village of South River on May 6 had 3
Northern Saw-whet Owls and 8 Barred Owls. An survey in late May in an
adjacent area had 4 Northen Saw-whet Owls and 4 Barred Owls.
RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS arrived May 8
CHIMNEY SWIFT (2) first showed up in Sundridge on May 6.
Pair of BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS on territory in bog at southern end of Lake
Bernard. Pair observed mating on May 6.
LEAST FLYCATCHERS and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS arrived on May 10. Least are
present in most suitable habitat.
Seventeen species of warblers, many on territory. Very early MOURNING
WARBLER at Sundridge lagoon on May 10 (singing)
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK arrived in the area in May 8. Still present in small
numbers.
Diretions:
South River and Sundridge are on Highway 11, about 3 hours north of Toronto
in the District of Parry Sound near the northwestern corner of Algonquin
Provincial Park. South River is the third traffic light. We will be
