Sorry for leaving out the directions to Little River. It's in the city of
Windsor, on the far east side, accessible from the end of Little River Blvd.
Cross the bridge and park, then walk towards the wooded area. There's an
unpaved walking trail that parallels the oxbow.

Subject: [Ontbirds]Glossy Ibis Alert Casselman - No luck

Hi all.

I tried for the Glossy Ibis yesterday afternoon at the Casselman sewage
lagoon, with no luck. I arrived at about 4:30PM and was welcomed by
high cold winds and intermittent rain; I met Susan Goods who arrived
shortly after and we toured the lagoons together. We left at about
5:45PM. Two other observers were present when we left.

I checked the falls at Casselman on my way back and went to the Embrun
sewage lagoons that Susan and I had decided to check as well. No luck
there either, but at Embrun we were delighted to see several of the
expected Wilson's Phalaropes and a Red-necked Phalarope feeding with
them. Embrun had a good variety of ducks including a pair of Ruddy
Ducks with what looked like 3 young from last year.

All places had a lot of swallows feeding over the water, many hovering
in front of high grass and cattails to catch insects blown by the wind.

Casselman lagoons:

>From Highway 417 (The Queensway), 52 km east of Ottawa, take the
Casselman exit (66) and go NNW toward the town of Casselman. Drive
1.1 km NNW into town on Rue Principale, crossing the railway tracks
and the main cross-street (St. Isidore), to turn right or northeast
just beyond onto Laurier. Follow Laurier northeast, then north, 1.8
km to Concession 5 Road (or Route 500). Turn right or northeast onto
it and the road into the Casselman Sewage Lagoons is on your right
almost immediately.

Embrun lagoons:

>From Highway 417 (The Queensway), 39 km east of Ottawa, take exit 79
(Regional 5), labelled Limoges / Embrun. Proceed 2.5 km SSE on Regional
5 to Regional 3 or Notre Dame Street. Turn right or WSW onto it and
drive 2.8 km to St.-Joseph Road on the east edge of the town of Embrun.
Turn left or SSE on it and go 1.5 km to Route 400. Turn left or
northeast onto Route 400 and after about a kilometre the Embrun Sewage
Lagoons will be on your left.

During an all day outing yesterday (Sunday) Christine Brunet and I found 126
species within a 50-km radius of St-Isidore (our birding circle). We did not
visit Casselman and unfortunately missed the Glossy Ibis. The highlight of
our day was a Marbled Godwit at the St-Isidore Sewage Lagoons late in the
day. It was still there at 6:30 this morning (Monday).

I will post photos of it later this morning at

http://jacquesbouvier.blogspot.com

DIRECTIONS:

>From highway 417 take exit 51 and go north. At St-Isidore turn left on
Parent St. At second stop sign cross Cty Rd 3 and continue on Bourgon Rd.
The lagoons are at the end of this road. The lagoons are private property
but birders have been tolerated lately.
