Highlights of reports received June 28 through July 12 from the
Niagara Frontier Region include AMERICAN AVOCET, PEREGRINE FALCON and
warblers.

July 6, an AMERICAN AVOCET was found on the Lake Erie shore at
Dunkirk Harbor, on the Main Street beach. Two days later on the 8th,
likely the same AMERICAN AVOCET was found ten miles up the shore at
the mouth of Silver Creek in the Village of Silver Creek. Attempts to
relocate the bird were unsuccessful.

The evening of June 28, 5 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 adults and 3
juveniles, were flying about the Liberty Building in downtown Buffalo.
These were certainly the falcons from the Statler Building nest site.
One of the juvenile falcons was also reported on July 7, chasing gulls
at Times Beach Nature Preserve on the Buffalo waterfront.

During the Fourth of July week, a camper in Allegany State Park
listed 88 species in the park and surrounding areas. Highlights were 3
OSPREY nests, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, BARRED OWL, ACADIAN FLYCATCHER,
RED-BR. NUTHATCH, WINTER WREN, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, and 19 warbler
species, including NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-R. WARBLER, YELLOW-THR.
WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, BL. AND W. WARBLER, LA. WATERTHRUSH, MOURNING
WARBLER and CANADA WARBLER.

July 7 at the Canadaway Creek WMA, south of Dunkirk in the Town of
Arkwright, a family of several COMMON RAVENS, 4 ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS,
VEERY, WOOD THRUSH, SCARLET TANAGER and 14 warbler species -
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, CHESTNUT-S. WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, YELLOW-R.
WARBLER, BL.-THR. GREEN WARB., BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, PINE WARBLER,
AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD, LA. WATERTHRUSH, MOURNING WARBLER,
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARBLER and CANADA WARBLER.

And from Amherst, July 6, in the area of Transit and Casey Road, two
reports of a white heron; most likely a GREAT EGRET, but possibly an
odd-plumage GREAT BLUE HERON.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, July 19. Please call
in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may report sightings after the
tone. Thank you for calling and reporting to Dial-a-Bird.
