Hello Everyone,

Yesterday afternoon I stumbled upon, and had a brief look at a Streptopelia
Dove at the top of the escarpment at the end of Fifty Rd. I re-found the bird
around 1800 and sure enough it was a Eurasian Collared Dove ! - A first for the
Hamilton Birding Circle. I took some decent pictures and was lucky enough to
hear it singing. The owner of the property on the south east corner mentioned
that it had been there for as long as three months so it's likely still there.

The bird was observed again this morning (18/07/07) by Bob Curry, Glenda
Slessor, Barry Cherriere, Kevin McLaughlin, and Rob Waldhuber.

Take the QEW to Fifty Rd., and head south toward the Niagara Escarpment. Fifty
Rd. ends at Ridge Rd. on the top of the escarpment where it turns into Eleventh
Rd. The bird is located at this intersection. It likes to sit on any of the
adjacent wires,
the chimney of the red brick house on the south-east corner, his
neighbors tv antenna, and sang from the top of the tall spruces on the
north east side. The bird is quite active, singing fairly regularly and
performing flight displays.

Good Birding,

Stu

Actually this is the second ECDO for the Hamilton Study Area. As indicated
on page 249 of Birds of Hamilton, John Keenleyside found one at his home in
Burlington on 24 June 1998 - the third accepted record for the province. I
hardly have to tell you authors out there how chastening it is to find how
few birders check your book.
